THE SEVEN I AM'S OF JESUS CHRIST

John Mark, a companion and assistant of Paul, Barnabus, and Peter, relates a valuable story: Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am? And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets. And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ [Greek, Christos, anointed, an epithet of Jesus, smeared or covered with oil, consecrated, or the Messiah] (Mark 8:27-29). Some thought Jesus might be John the Baptist, or Elias, or one of the prophets; but Peter knew from the revelation of God the Father that Jesus was the anointed one, the Christ. More importantly, though, who does Jesus say that He, Himself, is? In the book of John, Jesus gives this answer. The applicable verses are listed below.

I am the bread [Greek, artos, bread as raised, shewbread, or a loaf] of life [Greek, zoe, life literally or figuratively, lifetime, one who makes alive] (John 6:35).

I am the light [Greek, phos, to shine, make minifest, luminousness, fire, or light] of the world (John 8:12).

I am the door [Greek, thura, a portal or entrance, the opening or the closure, or gate]of the sheep (John 10:7).

I am the good shephered [Greek, poimen, a shepherd literally or figuratively, or pastor] (John 10:11).

I am the resurrection [Greek, anastasis, standing up again, moral recovery, raised to life again, or cause to rise again] and the life [Greek, zoe, life literally or figuratively, or lifetime] (John 11:25).

I am the way [Greek, hodos, a road, a progress, the route, or figuratively a mode or means], the truth [Greek, aletheia, truth, true as not being concealed, truly, or verity], and the life [Greek, zoe, life literally or figuratively, or lifetime] (John 14:6).

I am the true [not concealed] vine [Greek, ampelos, a vine as coiling about a support] (John 15:1).

Who do the scriptures say Jesus is?:

The Son Of Man:

For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost (Matthew 18:11).

The Messiah:

And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate (Daniel 9:26-27).

The Son Of God:

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God (Mark 1:1).

The Christ:

And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16). But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven (Mark 14:61-62).

He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ (John 1:41).

And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world (John 4:42).

That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ (Colossians 2:2).

The Saviour:

I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour (Isaiah 43:11).

And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob (Isaiah 49:26).

And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world (John 4:42).

AMEN.

THE CHRISTIAN  HERALD

Be careful for nothing; but in
every thing by
prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let
your requests be
made known unto God. And the
peace of God,
which passeth all understanding,
shall keep your
hearts and minds through Christ
Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things
are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things
are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things
are of good report;
if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on
these things”
(Philippians 4:8).

Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which
ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly;
and by good words
and fair speeches deceive the hearts
of the simple
(Romans 16:17-18).

"How much more shall the blood
of Christ, who through the eternal
Spirit offered himself without spot
to God, purge your conscience from
dead works to serve the living God?”
(Hebrews 9:14)

The LORD bless thee, and
keep thee: The LORD make his
face shine upon thee, and be
gracious unto thee: The LORD
lift up his countenance upon
thee, and give thee peace”
(Numbers 6:24-26).

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination [Hebrew, toebah, something morally disgusting, an abhorrence, idolatry]. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion"
(Leviticus 18:22-23).
